 Motion Sensor

A motion Sensor is an electronic device that is designed to detect the motion of an object without any physical contact. It is used for home and business security systems and smartphones.

 Motion Sensor/Detector has three main sections.

• Sensor
• Embedded system
• Mechanical component

These sections vary in size and configuration. It can be customized to perform a specific function such as activating the alarm, switching the lights, etc.

There  are two types of Motion Sensor 

1. Active Motion Sensor
2. Passive Motion Sensor

Active Motion Sensor

Active motion Sensors are required for the external power source for operation. It has two sections receiver and sender/transmitter. When the transmitter transmits the signal such as radiation or sound wave an object of the surrounding is reflected back radiation or sound wave to the receiver. The sensor detects the motion of an object. Receiver an electric pulse is sent to the embedded system, which turns on or operates the mechanical component.

The Active Motion Sensor is used in ultrasonic sensors, microwave sensors, tomographic sensors, and infrared sensors.

Passive Motion Sensor

A passive motion sensor is a device that detects and responds to some type of input from the physical environment. This sensor has no transmitter only receiver. The sensor receives radiation, vibration, and heat which is emitted by objects. 

There are various types of Passive Motion sensors in the market available such as PIR sensors, seismic sensors, etc.

Dual technology Motion Sensor

Dual-technology motion sensors use a combination of two different technologies to detect the movement of objects in an area. The most commonly used combination in dual-technology motion sensors is infrared and microwave. It is the complement of each other in range and sensitivity.
